Welcome to our new web site, small but perfectly formed! It's humble beginnings outline our current product range, giving more detail than is possible in our regular adds, with images of the models - time and space allowing! As time goes by we hope to increase the site's content to include tips and features of spacecraft modelling. The site will also include reports on the M 1 Program, part of the Magellan Project. Over a period of time the objectives of the "M Series" will be outlined along with details of how interested parties will be able to directly participate "hands on" in the form of individual or associate membership. Technical membership and technical sponsorship will also be avenues of participation. |

M 1 Program News
The '98 season ended with a total of 21 glide flights under our belt and 4 unpowered taxi tows. The highlight of the year was undoubtedly the the 21st glide fight when the M 1 was towed to altitude behind a powered "tug" and released. This demonstration fight laid to rest any doubts the team may have had about the M 1's unpowered handling characteristics. This paved the way to push ahead with the propulsion program, enhanced control and monitoring systems, and refined avionics designs.
The '99 season has to date been largely spent in development with propulsion and avionic bays being installed prior to the first powered taxi tests and powered flights. After a series of powered flights have proved satisfactory, propulsion will be cut at altitude and unpowered landings will be demonstrated. These test flights should be completed this year. Other developments will include static and dynamic testing involving the "switching" of propulsion systems and switching of modular avionic surfaces.
Success with the program outlined above will refine the M 2 design which will explore more advanced avenues including materials, advanced control systems and monitoring. It will also explore a much wider performance envelope. Whilst this 2nd phase of the program is in development the M 1 will continue to provide a useful R&D platform.
